A truck crashed into an unoccupied house at 107 Hartford Avenue on Thursday, Aug. 3, necessitating an hours-long road closure and the eventual demolition of the home, according to the Bellingham Police Department.
Multiple 911 calls reported that the tractor-trailer crashed into the house around 9:30 a.m., sending firefighters and police officers to the scene.
First responders cut the truck driver from the cab and airlifted him to a local hospital.
An initial investigation determined that the tractor-trailer was heading east on Hartford Avenue when it left the road, crossed over Nason Street, and crashed into the back of the home, causing "catastrophic damage."

Bellingham Police, Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction are investigating the crash.
A portion of Hartford Avenue, between North Main Street and Depot Street, was closed for several hours. Additional road closures are expected to allow the home to be demolished.
